We had an amazing time with the SAS CWW this year! From tie-dying to survival games to tower jumping, the students from SAS really took advantage of having fun, and all the interaction throughout the two days helped reiterate the fact that "No one is an island!" Thanks, SAS! Selena

You amaze me SAS art students! This past week we had three days of art going on at Telunas, and all I could say most of the time was, "WOW!" Miss Harvey and her sidekick/life-of-the party kiddo provided direction and entertainment, "Go Guys!" The models were still-lifes at their best- great drooling, guys. What a superb trip. SAS Interim Ria Encounter

From the 10th-16th of February we were priveleged to have an interim trip group from the Singapore American School join us at Telunas Beach. We had a fabulous time, partaking of such activities as overnighting in a local village, trekking and sleeping in the jungle, beach games and the Telunas Amazing Race. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and thank you especially to the SAS teachers who gave of their time to organize the trip this year! We hope to see many of you back on future trips from SAS. Please find below a poem from the winning team of the Telunas Amazing Race.

Girls Team Poem

Aboard wooden boat, we roamed turquoise sea,
The stress of the city from which we did flee.
Leap from the dock to swim with the fish.
To go back home we did not wish.
With families we stayed, continuosly squatting,
And with good natured people our me-itis was rotting.
From ocean to jungle, we trekked and we hiked,
A few slips and a few falls, we came out all right.
Under the sun we did sizzle and fry,
But being together was the best natural high.
Our island, our home, the resort of Telunas,
In our hearts it is glowing just like the moon'is.

"Make it seem real"! You all definitely followed Richard Tulloch's advice for writing, and carried into every area of our camp, SAS! From the desert island adventure, to screaming through the "scary" stories at the bonfire, I definitely shared with you in enjoying every minute out at Telunas. What a privelege to spend a week with all of you! Matthew, thank you for bringing the students once again. I thought it would be hard to top 2007, yet it appears you all had another great year. Swimming in the Stars: An Invasion of Pelagic Tunicates

Spirit enchanted caves, rivers filled with rubies and jungles teeming with billions of flesh eating bugs. The stories from this island are endless, but an event I will never forget came not on the land, but from the sea. It was a marine biologist’s dream-come-true! A week ago, billions of Pelagic Tunicates (or to simplify, tiny thumb shaped transparent organisms) passed through the waters of Telunas Beach. I was casually enjoying friendly conversation in my sarong, when a wet young boy ran to my side informing me that the water was glowing. As a marine biologist I found this quite puzzling and knew I should investigate the alleged information. I could see nothing from the dock, but I knew that the only way to solve this mystery was to dive in myself. With my mask in place and my snorkel secured safely in my mouth I dove in. I will never forget what I first experienced. Everything around me lit-up as if I was swimming in space, moving the stars as I willed. In no time the resort was out of masks as tons of people jumped into the water. We watched each other trigger these tiny bioluminescent organisms with every movement and shared in an experience that many people will never see, and tons of marine biologists only study about. "Survivor" Star comes to Telunas

We had a special treat this past week when Austin Carty from "Survivor: Panama - Exile Island" came with the Yongsan International School to speak during their week long camp. We couldn't have a star leave without getting a small quote from him. So here it is:

"In all my travels, I believe my trip to Telunas Beach has to have been my favorite. The owners are more than mere businessmen; they are genuine people who are involved in every facet of your stay: leading jungle hikes, overseeing island-to-island transportation, constantly accessible for matters of accomodations. All of this doesn't even speak of the main draw of Telunas Beach: the atmosphere. If you've never been to Indonesia, then I urge you: come stay at Telunas Beach and watch a sunrise over the misting island mountains. Trust me; if you're anything like me, you'll be glad you came to Telunas Beach." - Austin Carty, April 2007

Austin enjoyed his time so much at Telunas, he was wondering when he could come back again. He is more than happy to come and speak for another International School or business that is interested in him sharing from his experiences. Let us know and we can set up your own "Survivor" week, with your own "Survivor" expert leading the way!!

"Survivor: Excite, Unite, Ignite" - Yongsan IS

For six days in April 07, 61 teachers and students from Yongsan International School in Seoul, Korea descended upon Telunas Beach for a customized "Survivor" week. The week was filled with fun "Survivor-like" challenges, opportunities to build teamwork, help out four local schools with work projects, hike through the jungle, and grow in relationships with each other, God, and nature.

The guest speaker for the week was none other than "Survivor: Panama - Exile Island" star, Austin Carty. Each day Austin shared from his experiences on "Survivor" and from his life to both motivate and challenge the students as they continue to pursue their dreams.

The group rose to every challenge that was brought before them and we were thrilled with their enthusiasm and hard work during our community development projects with the schools. We also want to send a special "shout out" to Nathan, for becoming the Ultimate Survivor for Yongsan International School. Congrats!!

We'd love to hear your thoughts about the week. What was your favorite part? What was your most difficult challenge? Did you have any special stories about your time that you want to share? We're looking forward to having you come next year.
